Linktip: Share Files with HTTP File Server
Coming from: gHacks tech news
“You have some friends or business partners that you want to share data with but have no website with enough space and don’t want to use p2p as well ? One simple way to share files of any size is to use the HTTP File Server which emulates a basic file server on your home computer. The server can be run in public or private mode and it is normally a very good idea to run it in private mode.”

Giveaway of the day – what’s that?
“Well, that’s a convenient initiative allowing you to get the best commercial software titles – for free. Every day we offer licensed software you’d have to buy otherwise, for free! Yes, we are giving away software, and you can download it from our site, right now and right here and our goal is to give away every good piece of software, sooner or later.“

“IZArc is a freeware compression program supporting a multitude of formats. According to the website it has support for the following file formats 7-ZIP, A, ACE, ARC, ARJ, B64, BH, BIN, BZ2, BZA, C2D, CDI, CAB, CPIO, DEB, ENC, GCA, GZ, GZA, HA, IMG, ISO, JAR, LHA, LIB, LZH, MBF, MDF, MIM, NRG, PAK, PDI, PK3, RAR, RPM, TAR, TAZ, TBZ, TGZ, TZ, UUE, WAR, XXE, YZ1, Z, ZIP, ZOO
That’s more formats that I knew existed. After using it, I can say that it has replaced the duo of WinRAR and 7-Zip I’ve been using for the past few months.

Linktip: 11 Ways to Motivate Yourself to Complete any Task in New Year
Coming from: lifehack.org
“Motivation is the mental push from you to accomplish an action. People have motives to do many things. Maslow’s Theory, one of the widely discussed theories of motivation debates that physiological needs (such as food, water, sleep etc) are the most basic and fundamental.
On the basic needs level, we could visualize how getting fired may lose our ability to buy food and get a good night sleep. However, some of us are capable enough to not worry about these needs. We lose motivation with our projects and tasks. We fail to see how the current task maps to a bigger picture. We need more defined ways to motivate us everyday. Here are some ways to help you in the new year.
(1) Start with the small bits. Procrastination occurs when the task is too big. Break the project down to smaller chunks that suit your attention span. If you can concentrate for only 40 minutes, break up your task to allow you to complete it within 40 minutes. … “

Linktip: Download of the Day: Dexpot (Windows)
Coming from: lifehacker

“Windows only: Freeware virtual desktop manager Dexpot provides you with several ways to manage and organize your Windows.Aside from providing an Exposé-like feature for individual desktops, Dexpot also lets you preview all desktops in a similar fashion to Leopard’s Spaces. Another cool feature is the Desktop Manager tool (you can see it in the corner of the screenshot), which dynamically changes icons to display the active program on each desktop. But Dexpot’s cool features don’t stop there.
Add to all of that mad configurability, like desktop rules for what programs get to live on which desktop, pre-defined transparency levels for certain apps/windows, and fully configurable hotkeys and screen edges, and Dexpot can give your favorite virtual desktop manager a run for it’s money

Linktip: Driving determination
Coming from: mindblob
“What do these 2 men have in common? Determination as an engine, intuition as a GPS,
and risk taking as RPM meter.
They are both focused on their objectives and want to reach them, no matter how. Being on the side of justice, under the rules set by law… their amplitude of action is limited. They share in a way the paradox of the “limits of the rules”, blocking them away from their goals.”

Linktip: Launchy 1.0 Beta Review – Launching programs
Coming from: The One Dan
“Launchy attempts to do for Windows what Quicksilver does for the Mac. It doesn’t include all the functions of Quicksilver (or so I’ve heard for Mac users), but it does an excellent job of its core functionality. Launching programs. When first opened the program does not seem to do anything. It briefly pops up and then disappears. However, after pressing the hotkey (by default Alt + Space) the window above appears, and the magic begins.
Launchy learns the more you use it. For example, when first running the program it may choose to show Paint before Paint.NET. However after you’ve continuously opened Paint.NET, it starts to show Paint.NET before Paint. This gives maximum efficiency. If there is more than one result for the program search, you can press the down arrow to get a list of the first 10 programs that match your parameters. The number of programs in this list is customizable.”

Linktip: 2007 Compact Calendar (All platforms)
Coming from: lifehacker
“All platforms (with a spreadsheet): The 2007 Compact Calendar is a birdseye view of the new year on one page with space for making notes on projects and vacations. Designer Dave Seah says:
I use it as to “doodle plan” project timelines during meetings with clients. Since the days are presented contiguously while retaining the days of the week, you get a more intuitive sense of how the days are flowing and can estimate accordingly.”
